If it's 35M a year, I assume it's short years. I hope.

If it's 35 he really should take as many years at that as they will give him.

Chris Sale should thank his lucky stars for Jon Lester, more specifically Jon Lester’s negotiating strategy at the end of his last contract with the Red Sox. Because of Lester’s strategy, and the Red Sox’ decisions not to agree to Lester’s contract demands and his signing with the Cubs, Sale appears close to signing a long-term $35 million-plus a year contract.

.....

The Red Sox probably started the negotiating in the six-year, $30 million per year range. In all likelihood, it has gone into the 7-year, $35 million per year range or more than a million dollars for every time Sale takes the mound. That is what baseball has become. But if the players are making that much money you can bet that the owners are making even more.

yeah i love sale and i'm all for extending long term.... but not this long lol

but i'm not sure how i feel about this if it's true

there is absolutely 0% chance that we won't end up hating him and be resenting the $70 million he's still owed 6 years from now when he's 35 years old and his shoulder tendons eventually snap and the batter in the box gets hit by his left arm still holding the ball

and even in that scenario.. getting 5 good years out of 7 would be still be a pretty optimistic outcome

maybe we should talk football instead cause 7 years would make me sick that is worse than signing a running back
